Mwaka huu majina yalikuwa yanatakiwa yawe yamewasilishwa tarehe 25 Septemba, 2015. Mpaka sasa vyama nane tu ndio vilivyowasilisha majina ya wagombea wao.

Two main opposition parties, CHADEMA and NCCR-Mageuzi, may not have special seats for women in parliament after October 25, polls after failing to submit names of the same to the National Electoral Commission (NEC).

During a joint meeting between the electoral body and political parties, a special report regarding the polls, which was tabled during the meeting, raised the concern over missing women parliamentary names in special seat slots.

According to Section 86(A) of electoral regulations, all political parties were supposed to submit the names of their respective candidates for special seats slots to the NEC, 30 days before the elections.

This year, the names were to be presented on September 25, 2015. So far, only eight parties have managed to do so.

Acting NEC Northern Precinct Electoral Officer, George Kashura who was chairing the meeting said NEC has received the parliamentary special seats (women) names from CCM, CUF, TLP, ACT-Wazalendo, DP, UMD and UPDP.

“CHADEMA and NCCR-Mageuzi have not yet submitted the names of their proposed special seats women parliamentarians,” he said.

Also Kashura reminded the media, party leaders and other groups to refrain from premature announcements of results because the mandate is under the responsibility of NEC.

“We do not want to confuse the mass with mixed reports and conflicting figures,” he explained.

A total of eight presidential candidates, 1,218 parliamentary candidates and 10,879 ward representatives are contesting in this year’s poll countrywide which is slated for the next Sunday.
