Paul Scholes says Louis van Gaal's decision to let Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez leave this summer is a mistake after defeat to PSV Eindhoven.
Paul Scholes thinks Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has made a mistake by letting both Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez leave Old Trafford this summer.
Van Gaal didn't have a recognised striker on the bench during the defeat to PSV Eindhoven and Van Gaal was forced to turn to Marouane Fellaini and Antonio Valencia as United chased the game in the second half.
Wayne Rooney, who missed the game in Holland with a hamstring injury, is expected to return in time to face Southampton at St Mary's on Sunday.

But Scholes still thinks Van Gaal has made a mistake in assembling a squad with just Rooney and teenagers Anthony Martial and James Wilson - who could yet to sent on loan - as his only options up front.
Scholes told BT Sport: "They've let three or four strikers go. Now, I think if we had kept one of them, kept a Van Persie or Hernandez then it looks quite strong.
"Van Gaal said last summer the squad was unbalanced. I think it's more unbalanced now.
"They can score goals, Van Persie and Hernandez can score goals. Martial could be a real threat coming off the bench. I just think that's a mistake."
