After successfully landing Memphis Depay, Manchester United targets yet another marquee scoop. Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema is the newest object of United’s transfer interest. The Daily Star reports that Manchester United has entered the race to sign the French striker. The club is ready to shell out 40 million pounds for the striker.
Real Madrid to sell the player
Karim Benzema’s stocks have dipped in Real Madrid. Goals have been dried up considerably in recent times. There have been rumors of a knee injury that could diminish the effectiveness of the player. Real Madrid reportedly wants to cash in on the player when he is still in demand.
Liverpool checked his availability in the last summer, but was snubbed by the player. The Merseyside club is so badly in need of a striker that they are still trying to woo the player. Arsenal too is in the race to get Benzema’s signature.
Manchester United’s entry
It is into this scenario that Manchester United is entering with its 40 million pound bid. Their existing strikers are either struggling for form or struggling with injury. It is clear that they need a new-look attack. Memphis Depay has already added one dimension.
Louis van Gaal would want a multi-pronged attack. Karim Benzema could provide the attacking thrust he is looking for – at least in theory. The success of the move could perhaps depend on how healthy Benzema’s knees are.
