OBAMA OFFERS ADVICE TO PRESIDENTIAL HOPEFUL KANYE WEST: "YOU GOT DEAL WITH STRANGE CHARACTERS"
President Barack Obama offered political advice to Kanye West during a Democratic National Committee event in San Francisco on Saturday morning.
The event, which drew about 1,300 people who paid between $250-$10,000 a person to attend, headlined West as a performer with an appearance from the Golden State Warriors and their NBA championship trophy.
During his speech, Obama said, "In a little while you are going to hear from a guy who is thinking about getting into politics," in reference to the rapper's announcement at the MTV Video Music Awards that he will run for president in 2020. "You may have heard that Kanye is thinking about running [for] speaker of the house. It couldn't get any stranger. In case Kanye is serious about this whole POTUS thing or as Kanye calls it 'peezy.'"
The president then segued into offering West some advice: "You got to deal with strange characters who behave as if they are on a reality TV show." West's wife, Kim Kardashian West, is one of the stars of E! reality show Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
Obama continued, "Saying you have a beautiful dark twisted fantasy, that's what's known as off message in politics." He proceeded to ask the audience, "Do you really think this country is going to elect a black guy form the south side of Chicago with a funny name to be president of the US," referencing himself.
"We'll say what Kanye has to say when he gets out here," the president said before getting serious and defended his record as president on domestic and foreign affairs.
Following his short stint in San Francisco, the president will attend a Los Angeles dinner at the home of interior designer Michael Smith, followed by a concert at a Pacific Palisades home.
